Grow lights, ultrasonic sensors, arduino, bonsai
Symbiosis is an interactive audio-visual installation that entices the viewer with sensory and emotional stimuli. A bonsai is placed under ultra-violet grow lights that fade in gently as the viewer draws nearer. These are activated by ultrasonic distance sensors. Simultaneously, ambient music fades in to accompany the serenity of the gentle light, playing on the viewers sensors in a way that serves to keep the viewer present. As soon as the viewer leaves, the lights and music fade; the plant remains in the darkness, and in this way a symbiotic relationship of survival between plant and human is created.
